Beautiful Baskerville
Project Type
Description
This project, completed for my Thinking With Type course, involved the creation of a detailed and visually engaging type specimen book. The objective was to research, analyze, and design a booklet that tells the story of a typeface and demonstrates its practical and creative applications. This multi-step process combined principles of typography, grid design, and composition to solve a multi-page design problem.
Process Highlights
Created content and a concept in order to create a cohesive booklet that highlights the Baskerville Typeface design features. Using typography techniques, including kerning, leading, alignment, and contrast to enhance readability and visual appeal. Packaged the files, including a print-ready PDF, working files, and linked assets, and produced a booklet with final dimensions of 7.5 x 10.5 inches, printed on folded and cut 11 x 17-inch paper.
Outcome
The final book successfully combined typography, layout, and design principles to highlight the potential uses of the typeface. The project demonstrated a mastery of multi-page design problems, grid-based composition, and print preparation. This type book serves as a functional and creative reference for understanding the Baskerville typeface in both practical and experimental contexts.
